Championing Excellence with the EFQM Model

RM Foundation

Challenge

The Real Madrid Foundation has 25 years experience as a blueprint for football clubs looking to take their values out into the community. And in Real Madrid’s case, their community is truly global.

But with more than 300 staff, and a broad purpose to represent the club’s heritage and promote the values of sport for all, the Foundation needs a management approach which can also adapt as the Foundation grows.

“Real Madrid means we have to start from a culture of excellence”

Julio González Ronco, Managing Director of Fundacion Real Madrid

Solution

The Real Madrid Foundation’s vision is clear: To use the values of sport for social good, particularly in global education.

And the EFQM model helps the Foundation deliver on its ambitions.

“Simply having the name ‘Real Madrid’ means we have to start from a culture of excellence”, says Julio González Ronco, Managing Director of Fundacion Real Madrid.

“But our Board wanted us to go further. To embrace a culture of continuous improvement and innovation as well”.

Moving beyond ISO 9001 to adopt the EFQM model has also given stakeholders an extra reason to support the charity as it sets up new projects. “Having the EFQM certification also generates confidence amongst funders,” says Mr Ronco, “which means we can open up new social projects and sustain them”.

The EFQM model is embedded across the organisation – including in HR, digital transformation, and stakeholder
engagement.
